MY CHIROPRACTIC STORY

My experience with chiropractic started when I was in high school. Before then I had only gone along with my mother occasionally for her adjustments and had seen my step-father go through back surgery due to a herniated disc. I was working at McDonald’s and slipped on a wet floor, wrenching my back, which caused me to have shooting pain in the middle of my back every time I would look down toward the floor. After a couple days of complaining, my mom took me to see her chiropractor at Chiropractic Arts Clinic in Spencer, Iowa. After the first couple adjustments, I experienced great relief from my back pain. I soon learned that chiropractic was not only for back pain. My mother struggled with gall bladder trouble, but through nutrition and chiropractic adjustments, she kept her gall bladder and got healthy, naturally.

My horizons were expanded further as my mother started talking with Dr. Kressin about what I might do with my life. She brought home a card to send for information from Palmer College of Chiropractic, and Drs. Kressin and Jones let us know they could use extra help in the office, as I was trying to decide on what I wanted to go to college for. After showing my interest and dedication, I was hired to help the Chiropractic Assistants, and was soon busy with filing projects, learning office procedures, and helping with patients for the next year. I decided I really enjoyed seeing people get well quickly and stay healthy naturally, so I focused on going to college to become a chiropractor.

The fall after my senior year I headed to Iowa State University, so Dr. Kressin helped me continue working in a chiropractic office by finding me work at Elbert Chiropractic Clinic in Ames. I ran the front desk there for about 3 years and got even more interested in becoming a chiropractor. I learned I would be able to help heal the nervous systems of many, preventing health problems, including degenerative disc disease like my father had surgery for while I was at ISU. After 2 ½ years of pre-chiropractic course work at ISU, and getting married, I started Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa.

While attending Palmer, I got my Bachelor of Science through Regents College in Albany, New York. I also joined the Troxell Intern Program to further my skills and experience outside of school, went on a Clinic Abroad adjusting trip to Budapest, Hungary, and I served as Student Council Treasurer for 2 years. During my last trimester at Palmer, I participated in a preceptorship at Elbert Chiropractic Clinic in Ames. I graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in June 2001 with a Doctorate of Chiropractic, received my license to practice chiropractic in July 2001, and opened my practice out of Elbert Chiropractic Clinic in August 2001. In December 2002, I opened my own clinic, Day Chiropractic, on the west edge of Ames. Chiropractic has helped me maintain excellent health and helps me enjoy my active lifestyle, which includes horse activities. My husband, kids, and I currently reside in Maxwell, Iowa.

I constantly strive to further my knowledge and skills by attending seminars that cover all areas of chiropractic, from running an office to adjusting techniques. I have completed over 200 hours in the Gonstead Methodology, Inc. seminar program. I am a member of the Iowa Chiropractic Society, serving as the 2004-2008 Marshall Central District President & as the 2008-2011 Marshall Central District Director. I am continually working to spread the news of chiropractic and the benefits of a healthy nervous system and body, for a lifetime of wellness.

Dr. Day does a great job. The first appointment is super informative and she takes X-rays to show where spine needs realignment! Super professional and very down to earth!
